ONE YEAR LATER. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE

One of the pictures below may seem odd, I mean how many people want to take a picture in front of portable toilets. However, for the people in the picture, the location has great significance. Last year, in that very spot, Robert Myers had gone into sudden cardiac arrest after finishing a trail run called the Ugly Mudder at the Reading Liederkranz. Ashley Cassel and Sheila Gonzalez, emergency medical technicians for Schuylkill Valley Emergency Medical Services, were on standby that day providing medical care for the race. Ashley and Sheila worked together, along with the help of several bystanders, administered CPR, and utilized an AED (automatic external defibrillator) device to restart Robert Myers’ heart, and called for Lower Alsace to transport Robert to the hospital. They were successful and one year later, Ashley and Sheila were there on Sunday, February 26th, 2017, to cheer on Robert Myers as he ran the Ugly Mudder once again. This year Robert Myers was able to finish the 7.3-mile trail run with a smile on his face. Since his incident last February, Robert Myers was inspired to become CPR certified. Robert's story is an amazing one and I hope it inspires more people to become CPR certified.
