National EMS Week is about recognizing the individuals all over the nation who dedicate their lives to helping others. Yesterday, during an EMS Week celebration at Penn State Health Saint Joseph Hospital, Paramedic Phil Salamone and EMT Nick Sturm from Northern Berks EMS were recognized for a job well done. Last year, on August 20th, Northern Berks EMS was dispatched for a 17-year-old in cardiac arrest at a local pool. A lifeguard on scene had started CPR. Phil and Nick arrived on scene and continued CPR. The crew was able to resuscitate the 17-year-old child. The child was then transported to Penn State Health Saint Joseph Hospital for further treatment. A Leesport Firefighter on the scene drove so that Nick and Phil could work together in the back of the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The child has since made a full recovery. This is the outcome all EMS providers work so hard to achieve. Paramedic Phil Salamone and EMT Nick Sturm did an outstanding job and we at Northern Berks EMS are proud to have them as a part of our organization. Thank you, Phil Salamone and Nick Sturm for all you do and Happy EMS Week! #teamwork #EMSweek
