| This week, we’re highlighting some of the critical medications in our bag that our crews carry and use in life-saving situations every day.
Epinephrine (Cardiac Arrest Epi)- Used during cardiac arrest to help increase blood flow to the heart and brain and improve the chance of restoring a heartbeat.
Calcium Chloride- Given to help stabilize the heart in certain emergencies such as severe electrolyte imbalances or medication overdoses.
Atropine Sulfate- Used to increase heart rate in patients with dangerously slow heart rhythms.
Naloxone (Narcan)- A life-saving medication used to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses and restore breathing.
Lidocaine- Used to treat certain dangerous heart rhythms and help stabilize the heart during cardiac emergencies.
Cefazolin (Ancef)- This medication is an antibiotic! We give it to our patients who have open bone fractures (where we can see the bone). This medication decreases the chance of infection resulting in a quicker healing time for our patients!
Every medication in our bag plays a vital role in helping us care for our patients when seconds matter!! |
